Half epistolary novel, half time-war sci-fi chronicle, written in the richest, most poetic English you could desire, there is really very little more I can say about this novella without spoilering. Let's try with this: it's a powerful tale about the need to find beauty and meaning even in the most hostile circumstances, and about what one is willing to sacrifice for them; the action spans eons and universes, and yet it's one of the most intimate stories I read in a long time; it's citationist, it's witty, it's epic and sad, and it's one of those books that I'm ready to bet will stay with me for a long, long time.
