Questo 2022, almeno dal punto di vista personale, è stato un anno decisamente migliore del 2021, che credo e spero rimarrà per sempre ineguagliato nella sua merdosità, e anche le mie piccole recensioni dei libri letti sono state, seppur comunque molte meno di quanto avrei voluto, molte più di quelle dell'anno scorso. Copio il 2021, scrivendo quest'ultimo post per buttare giù due-righe-due su alcuni dei libri che mi hanno colpito nel 2022, ma per cui non ho avuto tempo, voglia o ispirazione a sufficienza per scrivere una recensione compiuta. Intanto i dati: stando a Goodreads, in questo 2022 ho letto 11.285 pagine (senza contare i libri che ho iniziato e non ancora finito, tra cui una monumentale biografia di Van Gogh ), racchiuse in 42 libri. A fine 2021 scrivevo : "Faccio però una previsione: anche nel 2022, storie, idee, amori, vichinghi, musicisti, assassini, scacchisti, guerre e astronauti mi accompagneranno." If you write a book about a gourmet cannibal serial killer, you have to take into account that sooner or later Hannibal Lecter will enter the discussion. And sorry, but Dorothy Daniels, the narrator/protagonist of A Certain Hunger , does not have one tenth of Dr. Lecter charm and, more problematic, of his depth. Take a traditional, "once upon a time" fairy tale; add a pinch of Lovecraft, a squirt of Oz and, of course, a generous helping of Uncle Stephen's own another-world-just-behind-this-shed-door secret sauce, and you get what is probably his best book at least since 11/22/63 . In Italia, si sa, siamo 60 milioni di commissari tecnici; pronti, all'occorrenza, a diventare 60 milioni di ingegneri civili (come abbiamo fatto in occasione del crollo del ponte Morandi), o 60 milioni di esperti di geopolitica (per spiegare la guerra in Ucraina, o risolvere la situazione in Medio Oriente), o 60 milioni di virologi/infettivologi (per affrontare la pandemia di COVID).
